La Merenda:
Local Artisan Cheese and Meat Plate
Tostones
Jamaican Jerk Trout
Duck Confit Crepes
Patatas Bravas y Chroizo
Braised Veal Short Ribs
NOTE: All four of us voted that our favorite dish was the Duck Confit Crepes. Brian was bothered that they are international tapas -- he'd prefer it to be just Spanish (or even another region). I thought everything we had was really good. But I do agree, that you do need to be careful mixing dishes in choosing what you want to order since they are pretty strong dishes, and not everything compliments each other. I've been here once before and was sad that one of my favorite dishes -- a shrimp dish -- wasn't offered tonight. But we all had a great time, and the boys really loved it.

Fish Fry

Burke's Lakeside:
Fish fry (for most of us)
My sister and I were competing in a mud run the next day. (It was un-timed -- I normally would have eaten a pre-race dinner if it was something I thought I had to worry about instead of fried fish). We spent the night at my parents since they live closer to the event, so decided it would be fun to all go out for dinner. We had an awesome view of the lake, and a really great time.

Our friend opened this restaurant, Cafe Benelux, a couple days ago. It's right in the Third Ward and has an incredible rooftop deck. Brian went to the soft opening. And I had lunch there yesterday after a bike ride. Tonight, we celebrated the last day of school with the boys. We all left happy and full. The beer was not bad either. (P.S. I had the grilled caesar salad for lunch yesterday. Yum.)

So delicious. I cannot wait to go back. The idea of open flame with the boys makes me a bit nervous, but they thought this looked pretty great too. We went with our friends Sun and Carlos, who are just awesome anyhow. Fun night.

Tete de Couchon (Pig Head) with Duck Egg and Chinese Five-Spice
Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding
I forgot the actual name of all of these items. And I admit, pig head sounds absolutely disgusting. I almost passed on that one, but was very glad we didn't. We ordered it based on the recommendation of The Frigs, who had gone the night before. It definitely rated up on the top of our favorites. The entire meal was great. From the $3 whiskey we started with, to the pressed watermelon amuse bouche, and the tete de couchon to bread pudding, everything was delicious. Can't wait to go back.
